Found unconscious in a Brothel. Lamar Odom’s story

A customer sits with an employee inside the bar area of the Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Mound House, Nevada, U.S., on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013. Growing use of the Internet to arrange liaisons with prostitutes and decreased patronage by truckers squeezed by rising fuel costs are also hurting houses of prostitution that took root during Nevada's mid-1800s silver-mining boom, George Flint, lobbyist for the Nevada Brothel Owners Association and brothel managers say. The NBA star was found at the Love Ranch South, a legal Nevada brothel that is part of Dennis Hof’s sex empire.

On Tuesday afternoon, former NBA star Lamar Odom was found unconscious inside the owner’s suite of the Love Ranch South—a legal brothel in Crystal, Nevada. He is on life support at a Las Vegas hospital.

According to a 911 call released Wednesday evening, employees at the brothel claim that Odom had been partying there since Saturday, and had been ingesting large quantities of cocaine, cognac, and up to 10 herbal performance-enhancing supplements. On Monday night, brothel spokesman Richard Hunter says, Odom had a strange request: He ordered the two prostitutes he was partying with, Ryder Cherry and Monica Monroe, to leave him alone, and when they returned the following day, he was unresponsive. When they turned him on his side, Odom was revealed to be bleeding from his nose, with a pinkish, mucus-y fluid dripping from his mouth.

Odom, a 6-foot-10 two-time NBA champion and former Sixth Man of the Year, was transported to the nearby Desert View Hospital in Pahrump, Nevada, before being transferred to a hospital in Las Vegas. There, he was joined by wife Khloé Kardashian (the two filed for divorce, but it hasn't been signed by a judge), her sister Kim Kardashian, and their mother Kris Jenner (Odom famously featured on the E! reality series Khloé & Lamar), his pal and former Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who informed The Daily Beast that Odom is “a very sick man” who is “not communicating in the verbal sense.”

The Love Ranch South is one of seven legal Nevada brothels in owner Dennis Hof’s sex empire, and Odom is said to have paid approximately $10,000 for the 1,500-foot, three-bedroom owner’s suite, which is secluded and separated from the rest of the roadside establishment. According to the brothel’s website, they admit to offering Viagra parties, though they claim that they “do NOT supply Viagra” to clients.

Located off of Highway 95, you’re greeted by a red sign advertising the Love Ranch. As you amble down a walkway lined with palm trees and statues of naked women, the compound comes into view—an unremarkable-looking collection of one-story beige stucco buildings. It is not to be confused with the abysmal 2010 film Love Ranch, wherein Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci played a husband-and-wife pair of warring Nevada brothel owners. That story was based on the real-life Mustang Ranch brothel.

Hof’s Love Ranch is located about an hour from Las Vegas, which, hours after Odom was found, played host to the first Democratic national debate—a showdown that was thoroughly dominated by Hillary Clinton. In a truly strange coincidence, the women of Hof’s Bunny Ranch empire were the ones who launched a “Hookers For Hillary” campaign this April backing Clinton for president based primarily on her support of Obamacare.

“A lot of people are going to look at this and say it’s a publicity stunt, but it’s more than a publicity stunt. When you can get publicity and do the right thing then you’ve got a winner. And we’ve got a winner here,” Hof told The Daily Beast back in April. “You’re going to see crazy things. They’re going to show up at rallies in bikinis. Bunnies for Hillary. They’re going to push the issue and stir it up because when you stir it up you get people thinking and looking at it.”

Though the “Hookers For Hillary” initiative was launched out of Hof’s most notorious brothel, the Moonlite Bunny Ranch—best known as the site of HBO’s late-night reality sex series Cathouse—it included all 500 or so women in Hof’s brothel empire, including those at the Love Ranch South.
One of the prostitutes who found Odom, Ryder Cherry, is prominently advertised as the “Top Lover of the Month” on the brothel’s homepage, and in her bio lists herself as the “star attraction” of the Love Ranch.
